THIS IS WHAT DJ MICHAEL LAYCOCK WROTE:
Hello all.
Coming hot on the heels of what was probably the best Electropical we've ever had (huge thanks to all of you who joined us in April!), DJ Marc Fournier and I return to the Backstage Lounge on Saturday, May 10.
After a bit of a scheduling snafu, we're glad to return to Saturdays. And from all we've been hearing, sounds like you like the plan, too. You wouldn't know it from the cold and rain here in Vancity, but new sounds are blooming this spring in many parts of the world, and we're looking forward to sharing them with the most open-minded dancing crowd in the city!
DJ Marc Fournier and I will dig deep into our ever-expanding collections of African rhythms, Arabian waves, Brazilian beats, Indian chills, and salsa grooves to keep you moving. So get down on the dance floor, enjoy our mix of urban sounds with a tropical edge, and meet friendly people and great dancers from everywhere.
Pre-Dance Gathering
====================
Early birds will meet around 8:30pm to get a table and meet members of the meetup. The dance starts at 10pm and ends at around 2am.
Cover
====================
The cover price is now $12 for everyone. We've been notified that Backstage is now taking 20% of the door fees. This makes it difficult for our favourite DJ's to maintain the dance so they won't be giving groups and guest list discounts any longer. That's not going to stop us from going out and supporting our favourite DJs, however!
Please be safe — take a cab or transit home if you'll be drinking.
